Type of Visa for Step 2 CS !! - 09-03-2008, 10:21 AM

Can someone tell me what kind of visa is needed these days to give Step 2 CS ?

Earlier it used to be J-1 visa but nowadays I hear they are giving us Tourist Visa to go to US for the CS exam ? is this true ?

If given a tourist visa i think we need to have a return ticket (open or closed) pani hoina when we enter the US ?

am so confused with this visa thing and esp when my days of going to US are getting closer. my exam is on august in Atlanta.

ANgel i hope u can shed some light into it or any ones help will be much appreciated.

Yes,you need to apply for B1 that is tourist visa, once u got the visa then u have to buy 2 way ticket.
J1 and H1 are visa need sponser, probably u will get, once u get in residency.

Kabir is absolutely right, thanks Kabir for helping hankypanky.

You will have to go through B1 for your CS and possible residency application for which you have to buy the return ticket that is must.

Once you get the residency either you will get it in H1 and J1 visa that depends upon the program. Then you come back to Nepal and change your status from B1 to J1 or H1 and re-enter to start the residency.

So, don't get confuse thats the only way, all the best.

Thank you all for taking away my confusion

well i got to ask about one more case.
If the husband has a F1 visa who is gng to US for his masters and his wife has a F2(dependent) visa then is it possible for the wife to give the CS test on F2 visa ? or the tourist visa(B1) qualifies you to give the CS only ?

please someone help me in this.

CS dina F-2 visa le hunna ra ?

If the CS exam is given in August then will it be in time to get a call ?

thanks in advance

It does not matter which visa do you have while you are giving CS,you are able to take CS with F2,the important things is you should be in USA with valid photo ID at the time of exam, they just check you name and schedule permit, valid photo ID like Passport, like they did in your step 1 and step 2 CK they do not check your visa.
Regarding call its better to have a CS result before you apply that is september 1,better you check on ecfmg.org

Hi all,

I am back with another visa dilema ?

What if you have a B1/B2 (business visa) AND a F-2 (dependent of F1) visa for the CS exam ?. Got B1/B2 first and then got F2 under a different circumstance.

I also got an observership in one of the universities out there.

I am thinking of cancelling the B1/B2 visa and gng on the F2 visa only.

But will I be able to do an observership in a F2 visa ? Ppl out here have told me that i can give the CS exam in F2 visa but what about the observership ?

I hope someone can help me out in there.
