New cases in Pous 2064, HIV = 175, AIDS = 26, Death = 2. HIV rate is very high in Housewives than sex workers in Nepal ! ! ! HIV status in Nepal till 2005: Total Adult=70000, Adult Prevalence (15-49)=0.55%, Number of Women (15-49) LWHA=15,310 (22%), HIV Prevalence rate in IDUs=32.7%, HIV prevalence rate in sex worker=3.8%, HIV prevalence rate in client of SW=2.1%. macule , papule, nodule, plalque ................papilloma.....SEE HUTCHISON FOR THESE TERMS .

3.Shape
Annular
ringworm
granuloma annulare
erythema multiforme

With well defined edges

psoriasis
ringworm

oval lesions
pityriasis rosea

4. Surface
hairy, glaborous , shiny...............etc

5. Symptoms
Pruritus
soreness
pain
discomfort
cosmetic disability



CAUSES OF ITCHING
SASSU

S-Scabies
A-atopic dermatitis
S-senile pruritus
S-senile xerosis
U-utricaria


FISSURES ARE PRESENT IN :
psoriasis
eczema
atopic dermatitis

PAPULOSQUAMOUS DISEASES ARE :

psoriasis
lichen planus
plityriasis rosea


SIDE EFFECTS OF TOPICAL CORTICOSTEROIDS
acne like lesions/ rashes / pigmentation
telangectesia
hypertrichosis
wrinkling of skin .....................so be careful before u use them


TOPICAL STEROIDS ARE CONTRAINDICATED IN:

Acne
scabies
staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome



PHOTOSENSITIZING AGENTS ARE

Tetracycline
Phenothiazine
Amidarone
Nalidixic acid
Psoralen



UTRICARIA
Transient pruritic , papular lesions .
Can be acute or chronic.

Verruca vulgaris (vulgaris means common)
Verruca plana (in face )
verruca subungum (in nail bed)

SKIN LESIONS IN ACNE

Comedons (diagnostic or pathognomic finding): Black and White varieties
Papules
Pustules
Nodules
Cysts
Scar



DRUGS THAT CAN CAUSE PIMPLE (ACNE)
PIMPLE

P- phenytoin
i - isoniazid
m- moisturising cream
p- prednisolone
l- lithium
e- anabolic steroids ................(got to remember this)




ECZEMA

Inflammation of skin characterised by pruritus.
eczema could be:
Acute :
papulovesicular lesions
erythema
oozing
crusting
pruritic
edematous

subacute :

scaling

chronic :
scaling
lichenification
increased skin margin
increased thickness

Types :
Exogenous :

1.contact dermatitis
a. allergic
b. irritant

Endogenous :
a. atopic dermatitis
b. seborrhoeic dermatits
c. numular eczema
d. lichen simplex chronicus ....................................NOT LICHEN PLANUS







KNOW THESE

leprosy is also known as : Hansen's disease
wart is known as : Verruca
pimple is : Acne
Ringworm is : Tinea
ping-pong disease is : Scabies
cradle cap is : Seborrhoeic dermatitis

Acne is a disease not a physiological phenomenon.
Common skin commensels are : Pityrosporum ovale , Propionibacterium acne , and Staphylococcal epidermidis .



Agents that cause blistering lesions are known as Vesicants .
Herald's patch or mother's patch
are diagnostic of Pityriasis rosea .
