Hi Friends,
I got following news from CNN.All the guys in china plz take care.
Bye the way, do anyone can share some experience about issuing driving license in China. How easy is it? Quote:
BEIJING, China (Reuters) -- Accidents on China's roads, the most dangerous in the world, killed almost 100,000 people last year, or 270 a day, but officials on Thursday hailed an 8 percent decline from 2004's carnage.
The number of injured fell slightly to 470,000 in almost as many accidents, Ministry of Public Security officials said, attributing the decline to better law enforcement. The exact number of deaths was 98,738.
The high toll is largely a result of negligence, with drivers commonly switching lanes without looking or signaling, ignoring traffic lights, speeding down the wrong side of the road or even throwing their vehicles into reverse when they have missed a highway exit.
"This is the first time since 2001 that the annual number of deaths in traffic accidents has fallen below 100,000," Yang Jun, China's top traffic policeman, told a news conference. "These figures show the effectiveness of our work."
World Health Organization estimates are much higher than China's official figures, putting the China death toll at more than 600 and injury toll at 45,000 every day.
The country's booming economy has translated into millions more people buying and driving cars, buses and trucks.
More than 2 million new cars were sold in 2004, up 15 percent year-on-year, after sales almost doubled in 2003. Sales in 2005 are expected to have grown some 15 to 20 percent.

Dear Sashank thank you very much. But isn't there any problem having bike without license? I too believe that the roads are quite safer than in Nepal.
But I think penalty system for traffic rule violation must also be high to reduce such accidents. What about this in China? I am interested in practical level not policy level...means can you easily get rid of all hurdles if you pay something to traffic police like in nepal? ..

yup some guys had some accidents and they had to pay money according to the severity of the accident.
this is a small city in comparision to other cities in china so traffic polices dont care foreigner without liscence.they know that students they dont have liscence but they dont do anything.but they have to pay road tax and should have blue book....... It is worthless to compare the roads of Nepal and China...In nepal there is no single "HIGHWAY"or say Expressway. So how you compare?...Almost all of the roads are like "National Road" mostly something like "toll free" roads of china...Transportion Network of Nepal is one of the worst of the worlds.....It takes around 6,7 hours..for 200 Km distance under normal conditions....So I think it is better not to compare... as Psoas has mentioned corrupt system is the major reason....For example A civil engineer in Road Department builds 3,4 houses in different cities of the country, rides his private pajero with his monthly salary of Rs4000 (talking the days of 8,9 years ago).....How do you expect good roads?..Let us pray nepal will get rid of such corrupts and see the light of development....

hope our country will lead to the path of development though it's sky high possibilities on present situation ...
