About a guy.

A guy, who was from a family which used to be considered a wealthy in the context of village, 50 yrs back during the period of his grandfather. The same guy was used to be considered from lower middle class family, when his father descended to the city and started simple grocery business some 24 years back. His father struggled hard, he nearly went to the Saudi Arabia to work and earn more.Saudi arabia was then used to be considered a lucrative place for foreign workers. But, what to say, was it his luck or bad luck , that he could not went to the Saudi Arabia after spending money which he then got from selling land, which he had brought at that time from the money he collected from his grocery buisness , which now worth more than six million . He then started a garment business , but he failed on that and went this time another foreign country to pay his debt which was more than his gross property. He along with his wife worked hard on that foreign soil for about a decade, which was sufficient to live a well to do family. After his parent returns with a lot of money, he was again started to be considered of being wealthy. With the mone, he admitted his elder son, in one of the private medical college of Kathmandu. His son completed his MBBS just before a year he returned from that foreign soil. When his son was doing final posting of his internship, the wind was full of USMLE among medical graduates of Nepal. So, that wind touched this guy too, and he set for the preparation of the USMLE, immediately after completing his internship. His starting was good, he used to study for about 12-14 hours each day, and it seems that this guy is going to get pretty good score. But, after about one and half month later, series of disturbances and obstacles appeared before him, some were personal, some were emotional, while some were simply usual things which most people overcome easily (but this guy couldn't)and some were familial. This guy was extremely different from others. He was unique. He was moody, and some time, I think he was Psycho too and I doubt, he was suffering from anxiety disorder, and i nearly took him to the psychiatrist. Day by day and month after months, two year passed. Some of his friend already started residency in the US, some returned with frustrated mind, determining not to go US again to try for residency, but he is still in Nepal, still preparing for USMLE. And now he is in dilemma, he is in such a position now, where it is difficult for him to go forward and to step back as well. Actually, he was not made to study medicine, I think so. Because, medicine is a subject where you need very dedicated mind and be able to do continuous hard work without any break. I know he is very care free person, who always love to have fun, do not want to bear any stress on his mind, and very interested in traveling and touring. I know that he even used to bunk his final year posting and internship when ever he used to get opportunity to travel. He was the only one in his class, who used to be always exciting and motivating when it comes to be a matter of outings. He was equally interested in current national and international politics, affair and entertainment news: also regular visitor of movie and play theatre. Oh! One thing I forgot to mention about him! He used to love singing as well, to be a popular singer was his dream. He had interest in photography and documentary film making and some time writing story too.
I am his best friend, he always asks me for my suggestion, regarding what he should do, leave the dream of USMLE or continue it. But u know ,I always advice him to give him ‘Public service commission’ examination and go to serve in the remote district of Nepal. Even if there is no environment to work , create environment to work and make environment so that others doctors too would like to come to work there. But, he is still in Kathmandu with same slow & interrupted pace, still preparing for USMLE. He couldn’t say when he will give his step 1 examination. When I ask him to leave his USMLE plan, he says that he will give it in any cost. Now, his parents who were initially attracted by his son’s plan to go US and earn a lot of money are now faded up, not only by their son’s lengthy preparation period but also by increasing financial crisis which has started to root down. Because, they had dream that, once their son would become a doctor he would earn sufficient money to fulfill their necessity , and to their sadness they still have to send good amount of money to his son , managing it with great difficulty.
And I’m fearing that , they would again fall from their status and would considered to be of lower class family during the period of their doctor son.

Brain drain is a major problem in the developing country. We all want things to happen in a click of a mouse infact life doesn't go that way.

If one has patience, dedication, motivation and hard work s/he can achieve tremendous success anywhere even in Nepal.

Thanks for sharing the current scenario of young medics.

Keep blogging.

Dear Nature,

That's a real great story of Nepali family and a culture of clan.
That's how many of us groom, of course not all.

You did good job sharing this here.
I guess it is a true story.

Best wishes,
mati
