Reluctant over a DREAM JOB !!!

So it was 2007’s Janai Purnima !!!

I was in Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department and that day we had GYNAE OT. I was with the usual stuffs an intern is supposed to do – trolleys, patients, catheterization, preparing antibiotics, adjusting lights, transferring patients, asking for medicines, calling patient parties and counseling, taking specimen and pictures of them, doing scrub in some of the cases and retractions …..what not !!!

I got a call from Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) asking for to receive a parcel. In fact some of the staffs were in ready position to leave HRA for IOM. I just asked and gave instructions where exactly I was and how to meet me. After half an hour two people landed in recovery and handed me a big envelop and invitation cards. We just exchanged our known smile, thanked each other and wished to meet again. We all were obvious about what the matter was inside and what the job is by which date.

I came out of OT by 5PM and threw the envelop in my dumping site – my BED and invitation envelopes in the dust bin – where clothes are dumped (hanging ??? NO WAY). Then later that night I put the notice in our society’s group – asking three doctors and one medical student. There were many doctors interested and so were medical students. Not a surprise and I was happy with the turn over. But I had another enviable (????) job – to select three doctors and one medical student and forward to HRA which I particularly didn’t find quite palatable for me.

Being three time there – twice as a personal trekking, once as a medical student and research assistant, then recently in EVEREST BASE CAMP for a research expedition; I had my mind to continue my internship, enjoy the work and pursue the clinical settings of my hospital. Of course, if I don’t have to be there another one will get opportunity. Therefore, I just put myself aside and offline from it. I even tried to push somebody else just for the sake I will not have to be there up to. But there are positions, status, experience, responsibility that you already have gained don’t allow you to have that sort of liberality!!! So I had to be there – MUST!!!

We needed an experienced man/doctor, who could work as a team leader. So I silently slipped into it and got involved with public awareness lectures at Bhaktapur and Thimi, Press conference and Assembly meeting of HRA.

I oriented, went up, worked, experienced and came down. A fantastic experience! It wasn’t a job I didn’t like but it was a job I liked and wished if I could give opportunities to others too.

I have pictures and uploaded in Xenomed few weeks back. Randomly selected ones are given here.

yah mati dai, there comes certain situations in our life, where we have to do it whether we love it or not!!! To participate is easy but to bear all the responsibility is totally different and definitely not as easy as it sounds!!!

Oh,

You got time to skim through it despite all the hurdles of final year exam.
Might have refreshing to be here in XENOMED after long, cocooned and torturous exam!!!
Anyway have a nice approach during your practical exam. Be patient, listen questions, approach with presence of mind (most often we get hurried and make mistakes and lose the presence of mind in practical exam - that's usual mistake we happen to do). I know you are smart enough.

So when are you going to be a "Doc"?

Hopefully soon.
Looking forward to seeing you all.

Best wishes,
mati
