World Hypertension Day: A Free BP Check Up Program
Posted 17-05-2008 at 03:14 AM by Khushboo
Today is the world hypertension day & on this great day Nepal Hypertension Control Society organized a free Blood Pressure Check Up Program. Luckily, I got a chance to participate in this program. The main aim of organizing this free blood pressure check up program was to bring awareness among the people to have a regular check up of blood pressure so that we can take some preventive meaures then & before to prevent the furhter complication associated with it like cerebrovascular disease & coronary artey disease as these are the most common causes of death in hypertension.
Different spots were chosen for this event like Ratnapark, Balazu buspark & airport. I was posted in the airport along with my team members. I was having a little bit more pressure as I was the team leader of my group . We reached the airport & took permission from the authority for organizing this event. The authority was very cooperative with us. Finally, at around 10 am we started our free BP check up program. All the people present there were very much eager to know their BP & it was really difficult to handle a huge number of those people. We cheched their BP continuously for 4-5 hrs without any break. Oh! My God we were really tired & even we had a pain in our ear due to the stethoscope.
But we are really proud as we have done something for the people. In the beginning many friends they laughed at us, making fun that u all are crazy or what measuring the BP of the general public. I just want to make one thing clear that any work can’t be small or big if it is done for the benefit of the people. The main aim was to bring awareness among the people to check their BP regularly & I am glad that we were successful in our aim.
I, from my bottom of my heart want to congratulate all my friends for making this event a great success!!!

| | I , along with 3 other frens, was in New bus Park and we managed to check up the BP of about 150 individuals. Most of them were unware of the HTN and its complications. We, especially focussed at the counselling part as we neither could diagnosed nor treat any of them there. We counselled each of them coming there about the importance of regular BP checking, benefit of excercise/benefit of early diagnosis along with the severe complications of HTN if not diagnosed early or if appropriate measures not taken afterwards. They were really enthusiastic to know about the HTN and its complications. They listened very eagerly to us. After all we all were really satisfied with the deed we did coz it was directly directed to the community service and we all are fond of participating in such activities! Hope we can do such or more advanced programmes directed directly to the service of humanity, service of society! ki kaso??? ![]() ![]() |

| | first of thanx to xenomed and thanx to surya dai and khushboo di for giving me the opportunity to participate in the program! well, i wouldn't say that i was easy but in the end, it was worth it! in fact, it felt very nice to be among the people there outside the hospital because we are usually so limited to the hospital boundaries. all in all, it was a very enriching and satisfying experience and at least, now i've got no problem measuring BP - the right way... truly, practice makes perfect! |
