The latest U.N. report shows that 65 million people have been infected with HIV since it was first identified 25 years ago. Twenty five million people have died of AIDS.

1.Specialised junctional structures

A. Anchoring junction
i. with intermediate filament
desmosomes (macule adherens)
hemidesmosomes
ii. with actin filaments
focal adhesion
zona adherens

B. Occluding junction
Zona occludens or tight junctions

C. Communicating junction
i. gap junction
ii. neural communication
iii.paracrine
iv.autocrine
v.endocrine
vi.juxtacrine

2. Unspecialised contact
Cells are attached to each other and basal lamina by cell adhesion molecules .
They are transmembrane proteins.
