I am not sure but 'Gano' I think means epigastralgia a feature of APD.
If U could tell us exactly what happens to U we could name that for U.
But, shakespeare says in Romeo and Juliet - What is in a name?
If it is bad just visit a doctor who will not only give U the name of the disease but also how to manage it. | | Member | | Posts: 73 Thanks: 0

well i had also asked the same question to many doctors but could not get the answer. it shows that nobody is sure about the entity. some people complained me of GAANO and when i examined, i found it only aortic pulsation which they were refering as gaano. others may refer a different entity as a gaano. so lets try to find some more things about GAANO | | Member | | Posts: 61 Thanks: 0

Dear kamal1981,
"Gaano" is a typical Nepali word for "Gastritis" sometime people do confuse with hernia but its' not.
Sometime poeple with gastritis complain of "AMILO PANI" which is due to the reflux of acid from your stomach to the food pipe a typical feature of Acid Peptic Disease (APD).
In our society, traditional healer convey the message that there is a a kind of round object (Goola; in Nepali) moves around your stomach and when it is not in the place you land up with the trouble. This round object is nothing but the gas.
Because of use of typical Nepali word used by the patient sometime it becomes necessary to learn what exactly a patient is talking about and for whicha doctor has to find out the sign and symptoms rather than what a typical Nepali word implies.
pathakom you are right, many people will come to you saying I am having "Gaano" please give me some drugs, by the way its not the patient who tells you the diagnosis, examine carefully, reach the diagnosis and treat accordingly. Interestingly they point their finger around the ubilicus and press deeply and say - look doctor feel the movement, that is nothing but as you said "Aortic Pulsation" which is easily felt in the thin people than obese.
Gastritis is one of the mostly encountered disease among the Nepalese community, personally if I have to say in statistics, I have seen roughly 40% - 60% of people with gastritis than any other illness during my practice.
kamal1981, you haven't given what it feel like you just said stomach disorder there are hundreds of stomach disorder but as you used the typical Nepali word "Gaano" probably you might be suffering form "Gastritis" (however its not the final diagnosis) treatment ranges from simple measures to long term medication depending upon the severity of your illness. If necessary you will have to go through the endoscopy (a pipe will inserted through your mouth and doctor will look inside your stomach) and if needed a piece of your stomach will be taken out for biopsy ( to rule out H. Pylori bacteria)Otherwise you will be given some drugs and you will be relieved.
As Walrus and pathakom has already advised you, please see a gastroenterologist around your place. He will examine and will decide what is best for you.
Hope this infmation helped you. If you have anything please feel free to ask.

I am only aware that "gaano" is not something specific about stomach but "things related to stomach". It is a kind of generic term. For example "Airtime" is also called as Gaano in nepali. Airtime is when you have a trip on a wheel and experience crazy feeling in stomach due to negative gravity. | | Senior Member | | Posts: 318 Thanks: 13

The term 'Gano' is vague and need not necessarily be 'gastritis'. It has something to do with uneasy feeling especially in epigastric region which some even refer as Gola Sarney. So, I would not call it 'Gastritis' as there may be other reasons of epigastralgia.
So, I feel it wrong to refer this case to a 'gastroenterologist' but would suggest him to see some general physician.
We don't have any study done on this but I can argue that most of the 'Gano' and 'Gola' and any other term for epigastralgia are psychosomatic and may need not be prescribed. But, each case has to be analysed carefully before arriving to a diagnosis especially in elderly as this simple sounding 'Gano' and 'Gola' may be a tumor. | | Senior Member | | Posts: 318 Thanks: 13

Hi,
First, I would like to thank Walrus, pathakom, Doctor and Rajiv for their replies. Sorry that I have not clearly mentioned my problems. The below are my problems:
1. Burning sensation in stomach.
2. Pain in upper stomach.
3. vomiting sensation.
4. I feel like my stomach is filled with gas sometimes. (Nepali term: Dhadya)
I consulted a general physician, he says that it is Ulcer. I consulted a SIddha doctor, he says that my liver is hardened. I am really worried about this.
Any suggestions will be helpful.
Thanks,

What is ur age? 'Burning sensation/pain in epigastirc region' , is it frequent? Nausea? Are you sure you are having these symptoms frequently? Who is that Physician who told you 'Ulcer' ? Had he performed endoscopy or just told you after physical examinations? It could be a benign condition frequently seen in adults who used to think much, who used to be tensed most of the times. Howeever, if you are having frequent and severe discomfort, then it could be something worse. However let us be clear about my questions above. And don't think much. | | Senior Member | | Posts: 318 Thanks: 13

Kamal,
Like we have been saying it is epigastralgia and the cause of it has to be found out. For that we need to talk in details about everything about U, examine U physically and also suggest U some investigations.
These features most commonly is of Acid peptic disorder (gastric) or may be, sorry to say, functional. Hepatobiliary pathology also give similar picture and so do many others like uremia.
We can further guide U in this thread but it will be better for you if U get hold of a good doctor whom U can trust and do as he says. It will consume long time and our prediction cannot be accurate if we try diagnosing here.
So, make an appointment with one good doctor and do as he says. Let us know the findings and we may be able to advise U further.
Stay Healthy and happy. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
