Painful Lipomas - 13-03-2007, 12:40 AM

I have lipomas that hurt, swell, and are completely painful. My doctors don't want to do surgery because they say it will not be a long term solution because they will just come back. I say that any relief from this kind of pain for even a couple of months is worth it. Why don't the Doctors want to help me? They don't even want to give me stong enough medicine to control the pain.

My Doctors say that the pain isn't even caused by the lipomas? I know it is. I've had 3 surgeries and the pain completely disappeared for a while until the lipomas grew again. My lipomas painfully grow within a matter of days.

I get stressed, then lethargic, then the pain starts. I feel an ache all around my rib cage and in my back and between my shoulder blades. That is where most of my lipomas are. This all happens within a matter of around 4 days. By the third day I am sometimes in so much pain that I have to stay in bed or just sit in a chair all day. I feel better in about 4 days to a week depending on how large my lipomas are. The larger they are, the longer it seems to take. I now have tingling in my toes and fingers and my legs start going numb when I move too much.

I have shown my Doctors websites on Durcum's, and told them how painful it is. The surgeon says he sees no long term benefit in doing surgery, so he refuses.

What can I do? I am desperate. I'm also loosing too much time at work. I've missed 5 days since Janurary and had to leave early today and am probably not going tomorrow. I'm not sure how long my job will put up with all of these absenses.

Please Help Me!!

Dear hazelcat,

Similar issue has been already discussed in this link http://www.xenomed.com/forums/ask-do...s-disease.html

You need to consult your doctor, we can't help you through online discussion.

Please let us know if we can give you any other info you need.

I have a fibro lipoma on the back of my calf. A month ago, it was about two centimeters across at the widest. My sergeon was completely fine with removing it, and said there was only a small chance that it would grow back. It has been a few weeks since i made the appointment and i am due to have it excised August 11. Right now it is about 3 centimeters across, circular, swollen, red, and painful. It is also warm and there is a purple spot on it, and that would suggest infection (what the hell) but whatever.

It looks like you have recurring lipomas, and they will probably come back like your doctor says. However, you should be able to just find another surgeon who will take them out and not ask questions. After all, my surgeon agreed to take mine out when it didn't even hurt. If your surgeon won't relieve your suffering, then he's an ass, right?
