How to Consult Them

Help and support for you

This page addresses various types of help and support for the Christian young person who experiences unwanted same-sex attraction.
A person who experiences some general confusion about their sexual identity may also find helpful support from some of the organizations listed in the third section:support from the people you see on a regular basis
When some of the people whom you see on a daily or weekly basis know what you are dealing with, they can be supportive by providing general acceptance, openness and opportunities to talk about what's happening in your life. By sharing your story with friends, youth workers and family members, you are no longer carrying it alone.
Read through the following list and consider who might be supportive and accepting of you:
  • Friends
  • Family members
  • Youth pastors and youth workers at church.
  • Youth workers at school or university: Inter-School Christian Fellowship, IVCF, Youth for Christ and other similar organizations that work with youth may be quite understanding and can refer you to other resources.
If you're not sure who to tell and how to tell them, read our telling others article for helpful ideas.
A solid sense of belonging and community is also very beneficial. We say more about this in the article becoming real.

support from others who understand what you are going through
You can get support from those who understand what you are going through by attending a support group in person or by participating in an online youth forum. This kind of support offers the opportunity to speak freely in a safe and confidential place and to be encouraged by hearing how others are dealing with their struggles. The following resources can provide this kind of support for you:
Finding a support group
  • Exodus Global Alliance is a worldwide inter-denominational network of Christian ministries that work with men and women who want to leave homosexuality. Many of its member ministries provide support groups which you might find helpful.
Search for local ministries and support groups:
    Worldwide (exodusglobalalliance.org)
Canada: Ontario & Manitoba. Other Canadian provinces
    United States
  • Other organizations such as Courage, Transforming Congregations and One by One may offer support groups of interest to you. See their full listings below.
Connecting to an online forum
  • Living Hope Youth Forum: This online discussion group is specifically for youth (25 and under) seeking to overcome (or helping those who are overcoming) same-sex attraction and behaviour.
Click here for the registration page: livehope.org.
Other web resources for youth
  • Materials in other languages: FreeToBeMe.com, a faith-neutral website offering alternatives to young people who experience unwanted same-sex attraction, has articles and resources in French, Spanish and Polish. The Courage website listed in the next section also has materials in other languages.
  • For friends who aren't Christians: www.freetobeme.com offers resources for those who struggle with same-sex attraction yet are not open to the Christian faith.

help and support in seeking change
At some point, you may be ready to look at the root issues which influenced the development of your same-sex attraction. This can be difficult to do, and we encourage you to have good personal support in place as you begin.
Many people find it helpful to connect with an organization which specializes in working with those who experience unwanted same-sex attraction. Such organizations may offer counselling, support groups and other resources. They should provide help, clarity and resources in becoming the person you really want to be. They will also tell you about the love of God for you and about your true identity in Him, and will explain the process of healing and change.
Organizations that specifically work with people who experience unwanted same-sex attraction:

1.Is gay can be treated to straight?
2. Aren't people who say they've changed just pretending, or never gay in the first place?
3.If I feel I really am gay, does that mean I just have to learn to live with it and like it?

there was a whole load of posts following the list of sites by DOCTOR which seems to have been deleted.

There's no cure for somone who's gay- it's not a disease!! It's just who you are-nature intended on you being that way.

People who've changed could possibly be confused about their sexual preferences or experimenting.

If you are gay, then you have to live with it. You can either be proud of it and come out with it in the society or live a hidden double life by being someone who you're not and trying to lead a "normal" and "conventional" life.

May be you should speak to someone in Nepal about it. I listed before the blue diamond society for people with different sexual preferences : http://www.bds.org.np/ there's a contact bit there, you should talk to someone about it, they might help you with your issues as they may have gone through a similar situation themselves.

BDS is a good option for you. I don't know much about it but I heard that it helps the gay people to get along with the society and find a future as they wish to have.
