Neurosurgery for OCD

What's the current general verdict on neurosurgery for OCD? Is it effective? If so, in what percentage of patients?

Are there studies involving control/experimental groups in this field, or is that considered unethical?

An additional comment/query. The YBOCS scale does not seem to me to fully extract the subjective intensity of pain felt by some OCD patients. I think too that it is quite easy for a patient to subvert the scale by simply exaggerating, eg, the no. of hours per day that she or he is incapacitated by OCD.

dr pauls, the issue you are talking of is a very relevant one, obviously studies are going on for the surgery of OCD. but i have not read any article about its success.
