drug addiction - 01-04-2006, 05:35 AM

hi,
after my first post, i got courage to share my another close person's conditions,
He is a student of sixth batch and i don't want to reveal about his identity. He listens to music, so do I. He plays basketball , so do I. And he takes drugs, and I don't . I can't persuade him not too, since i know i failed.
He had left taking for about 15 days, and now he is back to it. Today, i said i won't talk to him if he takes, and don't know, if that too will work.
Others call him psycho, and call him names, but i have interacted with him and have observed some distinctions. He frequently alters his state, by listening to music, shouting, and taking about Havard( thank god now, he don't talk about it atleast), he loves people and dog, and call his love with other person as research. I know it may seem a little complicated, but i also know he is not mad. He has fine ideas about life, and enjoys his world.
I don't want to interfere in his life, but want him to stay away from negative influences like drugs, cigarrette etc.
Today , while i was sharing my ideas about state management by simly altering body posture and mental representation, he started taking, and i moved away. Was it correct response on my part ? i don't know. But , one think i know, i want to link pain to his behaviour of taking drugs. He said can even leave his family for this.
My question is -IS IT POSSIBLE TO PERSUADE SOMEONE TO LEAVE DRUGS ' ON HIS WILL '? without hurting him or his sentiments?
ya, there are many drug addicts, BUT IT MATTERS WHEN ONE OF THEM IS MY BROTHER..........what can i do........

Dear Sushant-passion,

I appreciate your courage to bring out this issue to the disucssion. Although I haven't meet with the patient until and unless I talked to him its very difficult to figure our what exactly is going on with your friend. However from your brief description I can assume that your friend is suffer from "Mood disorder" could be bipoar type.

This person need a psychiatric consulation. I am sure you might have senior discuss with them or you can talk to the Psychiatric department of your college.

Best apporach would be to discuss this issue with a psychiatrist and bring your friend for the treatment. When you discuss with the psychiatrist he will guide you as how to give support to a friend like this.

Best of Luck
