Post Treating Lipomas or Durcum's Disease - 05-12-2006, 06:41 AM

Hello Doctor!
I had a problem of Lipoma some years ago. They developed at differnt parts of body.
I got two surgically removed from left arm also but after that more appeared.

I noticed that when i stop eating PURE GHEE (Saturated fat) then no more new formation is there.
But now when i have started consuming saturated fat again , lpomas hav again started.

Please tell me what to do.

Medical History:
I took homeopathic medicines for about 3-4 years for Hair problem+lipmas+Kidney stone.

Recently got the renal calculi removed by lithotripsy.

Please advise.
Thanks

If nodules increases in size and number you need to see a surgeon.

Lipoma do have size of [0.4 in.(1 cm) to 1.2 in.(3 cm)] and felt just under the skin movable and have a soft, rubbery consistency, do not cause pain and remain the same size over years or grow very slowly.

You might need medical attention if it

Becomes painful or tender.
Becomes infected or inflamed repeatedly.
Drains foul-smelling discharge.
Interferes with movement or function.
Increases in size.
Becomes unsightly or bothersome.

Its good to know that you have dercum's disease in the back of your mind.

Dercum's disease is a rare condition characterized by scattered areas of painful cutaneous nodules or fat accumulations. Development of the nodular, tender lipomas is gradual with localization largely to forearms and thighs. It occurs chiefly in menopausal obese women of middle age and may be familial. Symptoms are asthenia, headache, frequently amenorrhoea and ecchymoses; diminution of sweating. Mental depression and deterioration have been observed in an appreciable number of these patients. Long progressive course. Death often caused by cardiac failure. Most cases of this rare disorder are sporadic but autosomal dominant inheritance has been documented.

Congratulation its just a lipoma but on the other hand I am sorry to say that there is nothing you can do.

At this point neither dietry control nor any measure will help you to get out o of it. There has been some indication that there is a mutation of mitochondrial DNA which causes the fats cells to become lipomas, whether these are encapsulated or not. Interestingly, the fat content of lipoma is unavailable for systemic metabolism in cases of starvation and paradoxically the lipoma may even increase in size during starvation.

As you said your lipoma get increased in number with saturated fat (GHEE) and you want to co-relate that dietary fat does play a role in lipoma but medcally speaking, diet does not affect lipomas - unfortunately.

Hope this will be helpful.
