Yes,
That's an excellent discussion. The incident is definitely a sorry one but the medical aspect has been well dealt and equally entertained by the client there. The concerns are:
- Menstruations
- Sexual contact - unprotected sex ( no matter what the way/modalityare)
- Pregnancy
Definitely we can't rule out her chance of getting pregnancy because it really fluctuates with the menstrual regularity and timing of ovulation that swings with the menstruation. She has not explained her menstrual regularity there.
Secondly, there is no history of contraception or any other drugs esp hormonals/steroids/others that can fluctuate the ovulation as well as menstruation.
Next point point should be detailed history of sexual performace - was it a full contact? No detailed history has been given. Since the girl is sixteen and seems from really outside the domain of science or health background, the history should be properly dug up and draw a graph.
Fourth, about using the recommended strip of pregnancy test. Does she know how to use it? I mean technical knowhow. Is she menstruating during this period as well? When to test - early morning, on the day or evening /night? How long did she put that and took that reading? What are the conditions she can get this positive besides pregnacy? Is it the pregnancy only it gets positive? Was the way of urine collection correct? How did she handle it? Was there any chemical/detergent mixture - chance? When exactly it starts getting positive even if you have fruitful coitus - even a women is pregnant? Is it the best way to do? Is it the best test to do especially for a young, ignorant and medicolegal case? How about blood BETA-hCG??? Why not to go for it immediatley? How about USG Abdomen or better - Transvaginal Sonography? Cheap, easier and faster!!! I mean better way out and medical aspects of that sort of condition. Why not to ask her again to test with the proper way and from better quality strip? Repeat the TEST !!!
Then it comes whether she had other a number of conditions where she can have it positive like GTDs !!! Other illnesses?
Finally, it may also be the quality of the strip!!! Was it within the date- Expiry Date? Was it from a standard manufacturer? For such an important case, I strongly recommend to consider such points as well.
Anyway, that's an important condition and we have to deal with all aspects in mind. I have tried to put some of them here. Hopefully doctors handling the case there will consider these point - but I'm pretty sure they are quite smart medicos and are dealing all these.
Thanks Dr Deepak for sharing that here.
Best wishes,
mati
