diarrhea?

hi
i just wanted to ask a quick question. what could be the cause of diarrhea if a person is having persistent diarrhea for 2 months after travelling overseas, provided that stool test did not show up any bacteria?

There are many things that come into play before saying the person might have so and so disease or condition which includes detail history taking, clinical examination and investigation.

Since you have given travel history and the diarrhoea, I can't say for sure what might be the disease that person is suffering from however a vague and remote assumption might be

Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Tropical Sprue

Both of this condition are related to travel and diarrhoea.

In both of this condtion, seeing a doctor is the first step. This diseases are generally diagnosed on the basis of a complete medical history that includes a careful description of symptoms and a physical examination and then conducting relevent investigations.

Therefore I would like to suggest you to ask your friend to see a Gastroenterologist.

thanks so much DOC and Rajiv for providing me useful information. my friend had IBS several years ago. i guess it came back. its worse during exams.
