Dear Flirt,

It's good that you are taking some issues regarding Nepal Medical Council (NMC). You have raised some interesting questions about NMC which are, of course, not relevant to compare with (with the things you have compared e.g. HSEB, PCL etc) and put rationals (democracy, freedom etc).

Guys, what do you think about the Monopoly of Nepal Medical Council?
Like PCL or HSEB, Can we get extra flavour of NMBE (National Medical Board examination) (My thought). In one way monopoly means dictatorship.Do we need to go multiparty democracy or stay in active monarchy?
Well this is only a thought and don't know whether will or will not be implemented. Lets get the Constitutional Assembly from our forum members?

My First Vote: We should have right to choose best one among all the choice. There is no choice now, and won't be till ???? years. So right now I will choose NMLE as it is only my option. If there are other options, say NMLE , NMBE etc. then I will compare the standard and choose the best one. Like I choose HSEB instead of PCL.
Remember my way of thinking and your way of thinking need not to be same.

I request you to understand about how medical system is run in a particular country and what the respective country's council or licensing body means. You need to visit: :: Nepal Medical Council :: so that you could have some idea about this body. I guess, your idea and conclusions regarding NMC are preliminary as well as impulsive but I'm sure a med like you (who is active, smart and in touch with the development of medical field being a part and parcel of such community: Xenomed and surely others) will easily understand about the matter and its gravity.

Both Walrus and Hydatid cyst are correct that this body has been heavily politicised. ! You are 100% correct. How could this be left in Nepal! Everybody is linked to some party and more than that, most of the executive body members of NMC are made by elections though some are by selections!!! To win elections.........................there is camping of course......and here it goes politics!

As far as it is concerned, the politics of NMC is not worrisome matter but "making it a body to earn money"!!! It has already spilt all over the ground. Some sort of mafia like network has already been on the work there. I'm talking about NMLE questions and its question leakage. Otherwise how could such things could happen.

Medical field of Nepal has been under influence. Who shot Dr Dixit, the pioneer in medical education of Nepal, principal of KMC and so many caps he has??? Why did this case fade way? Do you believe that our investigation department and detectives are so nerd not to have a slightest idea on it? The reason on given on media was to take hold of his mobile!!! It is absolutely ridiculous. How could a guy can buy a revolver to steal mobile? He could have get into micro bus (public transport) or in the rush of Ratnapark, Ason, Newroad and Thamel where almost all passengers and people do have cell phones. How could he take such a risk to take a mobile from a man who has car, driver and possibly guard???? It would have been better to confuse people if they had told he was trying to take Dixit's car. And all are silent. The concern is about who is playing from behind rather than who was shot and who escaped!

Not only Congress, Communist but also some other sort of campings are made during elections!!! This will be more evident and will have dangerous impact in later years.

I think one of the objectives of Nepal Medical Council is to standerdise the quality of medical field in the country.

Yes it is. One of the many but most important as well as most sensitive one. If they fail to do this, they fail in everything. That's the crux.

My view is : this issue is not something we should ponder and give our thought. But the thought should be how to make our NMC impartial, a true non-political organisation and a council we can be proud of. NMC must be more vigilant in the practices in this field, which means not only clinical practise but ethical practise and social status of doctors. As I have been continuously writing in my other posts, there is lot of corruption in this field, NMC should poke their noses there.

Recently some of the hospitals in UK are conducting exams for the doctors they hire and the exam is bedside clinical skills which is very much same with many exams you do before you pass final exam!!! More than that you have already been licensed. Many of the doctors think it is inappropriate to conduct bedside clinical exams!!! This is because whole clinical years in undergraduate level is meant for this. They say, if they conduct separate such exams after passing exam and get license to practice (which is another exam exactly similar to NMLE, USMLE etc), they meant the medical education the graduates receiving is not sufficient. If so the education or syllabus should be improved rather than incorporating such exams. The whole idea is there is no way of escaping a licensing body and its examination of a country if one has to practice medicine. There are systems in some countries that this license expires in certain years or different criteria to renew the license unlike Nepal where once you pass a NMLE you are granted license to practice for ever in your life time unless you do some activities that terminates or suspends license.

Rather we could improve it as rightly said by Hydatid.

Better to know about our own field and it's system.
