I am proud of you. You are taking a good point out here.

It is a matter of huge sorry for all regarding TU, Samarat about this delay !!! I feel sorry for myself and other colleagues like you. It is never fair to waste SIX MONTHS. This is great time and immensely productive time of anybody who is just enrolled in medicine. We have lots to study, to do and have miles to go. It is a real shame just to let it go without thinking any further options. We, students are partly to blame simply because we have accepted it in one or another way.........not being able to force authorities to change it. Your feelings, thinking and conclusions are absolutely genuine and correct as well as coherent with all the TU students.

ActuallyI wanted to know you people view as well(mostly t.u students) if i'm the only one who thinks like that or is there other thing that i can understand behind it?

Waiting to the fellow students who are having chance exams is ethically fair but it is never fair by the loss of six months or any months. TU must think about it: either reducing it to less than one month or making good use/alternative provision for the students who have already passed the exams. There are hundreds of best options that we can have best use of this time even if we don't go with academic calendar. And it is already a time we need to give it a better direction.

That was there for a long time and that has been fine for them.

It could be interpreted in such way because we have been unable to bring down authorities to amend the error but that should never be misinterpreted that it has been fine for us. It is not. It is five years I have joined here and we are always conscious, concerned and trying our best to change it.

Most students who really don't want to waste those time do something that keep them occupied and they do something creative that they didn't have time for during there med schooling or before.

We have tried our best to do so and myself personally too. There are many god damn smart guys who have managed to make themselves world class utilizing such gaps !!! There are ! I am mediocre and just tried to be occupied but you can do so many things........I have seen my seniors and juniors doing whole lot of things !!! I just want to convey message that you can really make good use of this time. Samrat do something. It is one your good seniors recommendation with great sympathy and caring (the senior who knows and have been through this painful gap: in fact, this can be best time of your life).

And this is perhaps the last time that they can enjoy, go out and rock in the wild. Six months is long but they take it as a bonus to go enjoy life.

But I believe, this is not the last gap to enjoy life. You can take time out and should take it even in your professional life. Some of the best and busiest physicians and surgeons are supposed to be trekking in Nepal Himalayas in between of their busy profession !!! As you said, six months VERY LONG that too for a young, tender and tyro medic !!! If it is not guided, it can be grossly misused.

There is much more than studies. If you compare with others then only you have trouble. Those students studying in TU already have more advantage than those in KU and in 6 months they are losing nothing.

I couldn't have exact idea of what sort of advantage you are talking Walrus. But I'm sure the advantage is not due to losing six months. If TU students have some plus points in comparison to other Universities, six months gap is cutting their height by inches if not by feet. It is already rampant right from USA to Nepal............to Djibuti (I mean ranges). It is punishment like in Guantanamo Island to lose six months without doing anything after you pass just your second year medical course. I know it by myself.

Yes it is good suggestion Walrus:

If they are worried, they can revise Basics so that they are more versed.

And Samrat has already something regarding this point:

Ya we can do it other time too while studying we don't need that extra time.do we?anyways i mean to say that it'd be better if the 6 month gap be removed so that the course finishes on the time they have said is'nt it they can't put us into 5 yr studies when they have told for 4 and 1/2 yr course...that's all

I think KU should also consider having this.

KU will have same fate as TU if they make it without thinking how to utilize that time. Therefore it is like think before you jump. If they do so, it is like one of those best colleges. Best of luck!

TU is doing homework to review its MBBS curriculum since few years back. I was privileged to attend in the review meeting few times. I made these points clear out there in a convincing manner along with a provision of elective in the final year. Everybody was positive . We also had discussion about the lengthy (six months) final year exam. We had some best recommendation to cut it short and manage without reducing the weight and quality of education as well as subjects. I don't know latest developments but you can imagine Nepal's beaurocracy and red tapism. Hopefully, it will be soon implemented.

The students are really worried. That's why they started it this year earlier with frequent delegations and pressure to Dean's office. Our juniors (I don't know whether Samrat is of this batch/group) managed to start about a month earlier than us this year !!! Congratulations! As a result of this, some of our juniors have batch-dropped. What to do! We have to start somewhere and some one will have to sacrifice. We can't waste time and wait for one or two guys for such a long duration. The system needs to be improved.

Do something !!! One of my friends from West has scored 99 percentile in USMLE first step in a similar sort of gap and is still trying to do some electives in his final year for six weeks.

Keep in touch with your friends, faculties and interact a lot. What is your best field: like biochemistry, microbiology in Basic Science? You can work out there. One of my friends was trying to do his PhD in UK but the university asked his exposure in Lab!!!!!!!!!! He didn't have, of course. There are a lot many, you can do. But I tell you, it depends upon your ambition, priority and how you take up the matter. It is the crux. If you want big money, overnight fame and get enrolled somewhere in Boston, Baltimore, Oxford or Cambridge..........well I don't know. You may be too either too genious not get there or something else. I've seen quite a lot people like this.

I have taken a great good step for your involvement in XENOMED to utilize your time. May be I'm too optimistic, positive and easy going: you may say so. But truth lies somewhere there and success as well: I tell you.

Therefore, get going.
Keep your faith high.
There is no substitute for hard work.
