| Auscultating the NMLE -

Though its not an "USMLE" its ofcourse NMLE. So fear is always there especially when you have to pass it to open your door for the independent medical practice and prescription writing. Moreover the most terrifying thing about NMLE is that the result is immediately after few hours. so the day of the exam which is the result day as well becomes a terror that a medic has never faced. And in the evening its party time for almost all of them except a few.
Last time, when we reached the IOM to gather the questions from those who have left the exam hall, we could feel the pulse of our senior interns. They were certainly not at ease. Some managed to smile but the anxiety and the fear could be easily detected behind those smiles. The questions they said was a different type this time. We guessed the word "different" was used instead of "difficult" because the medical council had the history of asking simple questions and thus the examinees were hesitating to use the word "difficult" being not sure whether it was difficult for them only or to other examinees as well. We could even see some female faces almost breaking their emotions into tears.
As for us, the experience was far from fear but very near to excitement because we were only two guys there(Suvash and I) who had not taken their exams but were there to just gather questions from the examinees.
We immediately started our work. First thing to do was to search for someone who knows us or who is from our college so that we could get better compliance. For about 10 minutes we found none so were getting a bit hopeless but then to our fortune, we saw a intern dai from our college and in no time we were before him. After the formal talk we explained him our job and asked for help. Starting his byke he told us with a deep thought "la, lekha". then to our surprise he was unable to recal even the twelve short questions. Immediately we understood, his active part of the mind was lost in the world of querries and anxiety about the exam and the outcome. Thus he was unable to concentrate. Then promising he would write all the questions and give them to us the next day he fled.
Till that time only few people were left in the premises. Then after asking to next five examinees we could manage only the short questions and what about the mcqs? There were 90 of them and no one was bothered to think of these mcqs again especially because it was the mcq part which was making the exam tough that time. With disappointed heart we returned back- we could collect only 11 short questions( there were 12 short questions asked and none of the examinees who helped us was able to remember the 12th question missing in our collection-probably because of anxiety) and only 10 mcqs out of 90.
Some of the reply which we got from the examinees with whom we approached were-"kasle tension lirakhos exam sakiyepachhi!", "Vo vo vai, jati question samjhyo teti bigreko thaha huncha" or " k k thiyo re sanchi..... aaa........aam........ vayo chadeu vai(walks away)".
Then we rushed towards sinamangal to report our unsuccessful but difficult work to Angel dai hoping next time the questions will be easier one and we could get more of them.So collecting the questions is a difficult job but someone has to do this. |
