Int'l Masters program in medical physics - 06-11-2005, 03:06 AM

1) MedPhys Radiotherapy/Medical Imaging Option
Advisor: Prof. Dr. Frederik (frederik.wenz@radonk.ma.uni-heidelberg.de )

2) MedPhys Vision Science/Biomedical Optics Option
Advisor: Prof. Dr. Josef Bille (josef.bille@urz.uni-heidelberg.de)

Scope of the program

The graduate program in medical physics is an intensive, research oriented training program, offered by the University of Heidelberg and university clinics (in germany hospitals are called Klinik) in Mannheim. Successful applicants are guided through half year of intensive course work. The typical semester structure at German universities has been replaced by a modular training program during the first half year, covering course work equivalent to two semesters. The program is concluded with a six-months Master’s thesis project, leading to a Master of Science (MSc) degree.

Entry Qualifications

The program is intended for students holding a first degree (BSc or equivalent) in biosciences, medicine, physics or a related field in physical sciences or engineering. The program is open for both domestic and foreign students. Students from universities that do not offer BSc degrees may also qualify if their training is equivalent (e.g. German students with a Vordiplom or Physicum and one additional year of advanced courses). Medical students or physicians qualify after successful completion of the basic science courses (Physicum, Vordiplom ..) and one year of clinical studies.

(a)Medical Track

Candidates will normally be expected to hold a degree in medicine or a honours degree in physiology or another appropriate biological subject.

(b)Physical Sciences Track

Candidates will normally be expected to hold a good honours degree in physics, engineering, computer science, mathematics or other physical sciences.
