Bajia - there r plenty of junior dr whpo will b willing for services for the most needy people
I think those who genuinely want to do service for the needy ones don't need government to recruit them. U are also right, Bajia, where U questioned if only MOE students should be recruited. If U look around, we have another thread where we are discussing this issue; may be you would like to comment there too.
This rule to serve was there long ago but MOE failed to recruit them cause they were not prepared. Those who completed MBBS moved on with their life, there was no question of waiting till MOE starts thinking how to do it. But, the question is, should they be calling those back who have already moved on with their life and already engaged in something else?
That was one question I have in mind.
Another question I am raising is not properly understood here I think. I was brining USMLE just as an example here.
No one will disagree that USMLE is worth a try though more than 100 return in one year, but those who get scholarship from MOE are good enough to compete for residency in US. The data about 100-200 students cannot be interpreted so easily.
Among graduates, those from IOM/BPKIHS/MOE are the best ones. I should not be generalising and I should accept that those who are privately funded are also good and some are right at the top, but those who were able to secure a scholarship there must be considered good. So, chances are thsoe from MOE will have no much problem competing for residency in US.
What I wanted to question was the seriousness of the MOE/MOH on this issue.
They have said that MOE students who wont serve government may be denied the permanent license. What I am asking is, is that enough?
Dr. A and Dr B both got scholarship from MOE.
Dr. A gets temp license and does govt service and gets permanent license in 2 years. Good guy
Dr. B studies for a year in Bir Hospital Library and sits for USMLE. He is good. He gets residency in NYC. He does not need permanent license for that. Excellent guy
Now, the question I am asking is - is it fair that Dr. B escapes so easily? Tell me who is wise here?
Another question
Dr. C who graduated 2 years back. When he graduated MOE did not make any effort to recruit him. He is working in Kathmandu - some private hospital for 2 years and in a few months he will qualify to get permanent license. Will MOE/MOH/NMC deny him permanent license because he didn't show up? Well, 2 years back he was not called. Will it be fair for him to be punished now?
I hope MOE/MOH/NMC/NMA has answers to all these questions before they really start. Else they will be messing many young doctor's life. That will call for another revolution as that is the language everyone understands
