Pillion riders 'JOY' - 13-01-2008, 11:12 AM

Pillion riders ‘JOY’

What could be more thrilling than being a pillion rider? You get to view many class of things in the bustling streets of Kathmandu, followed with mind blowing refreshment.

The many reasons for me being a pillion rider includes either or all of the following- maybe I don’t own a motorbike or I don’t know how to ride it or I don’t have a driving license. Whatever be the damn reason, the pillion riders ‘JOY’ is something thrilling to me. I’m simply obsessed about being a pillion rider.

Being on a motorbike means you are on the dot- though not necessarily! But because of its size and penetratibility, it can overtake any juggernaut in the streets of Kathmandu. No wonder, the four wheelers are the one who get wedged in traffic jams.

What I enjoy most is that the pillion riders head is free to move in any directions. Especially me, on the way, I try not to miss out any unique activities.

Once we happened to start off from New Road. Within seconds, we had a young duo to our right, moving with relative speed. The one behind was Ms. Pillion rider. Their clunky attachment was worth noticing. The petulant nature of her partner, moreover, the sudden acceleration and application of breaks was sickening. I was getting the whole phantasmagoric view. Not to mention, a few distance away due to traffic signal we were just about half a meter in juxtaposition. Her ogling looks allured me. Just when I was observing her, because of her anatomical position and summer wear, her back was visible to me up to her natal cleft. Oops! Just when I could see more, they eloped away. No matter, whether it was an intentional or unintentional act, I was not the only one who was getting the close-up view and causing the “gapers traffic jam” .

One particular scene, which I can’t afford to forget, is the girl behind those cute windscreens of the Pajero. With her black goggles, the seat belt tied, the puff of Marlboro lights (?) and the constant swinging of her head (probably to the tunes of her favorite track) seemed so hi-fi and sophisticated that I didn’t bother to further look at her. They parked at Durbarmarg. Luckily we too happened to park beside them. It was then the catastrophe occurred. The cute looking girl inside those four wheelers looked so dehydrated and pallid from few yards away. I guess she wasn’t on chemotherapy. My buddy chuckled “she should express thanks to those windscreens, goggles and her Marlboro

I remember when I was in school, my teachers used to say “pillion riders are more vulnerable to road mishap” so I always keep my buddy advising to drive cautiously-“no quick accelerations or decelerations-coz it’s me” and I too have no intentions of distracting his concentrations. I enjoy being myself as a pillion rider. This is the license the pillion riders get!

[Thank you for reading this page. This was back in the year 2000 when the streets in Kathmandu were quite free from demonstrations. These days having fun in the streets means shouting slogans, becoming a part of the agitating groups, burning tyres, pelting stones and causing trouble to all riders. Please share if you have one]
