would nepal have the funding for a mass screening programme. we are lucky here in the UK that there is a screening programme. From the age of 20 (now changed to 25), all females receive a letter from their GP surgeries inviting them to have a smear done...and then getting re-invited every three years. the screening allows early capture of the disease before it progresses into cervical cancer and can be treated. Also there are new drug under experimentation for this disease, a possible vaccination could soon be available.
may be it should be part of the sex education that is delivered in the villages. Maybe they should include that being sexually active means the exposure to a virus that causes cervical cancer and therefore should have regular checks at the GUM clinic. |
