PG from Kathmandu University (KU) and its affiliated colleges

PG seats in KU are basically allocated in different its affiliated Medical colleges and own medical school (KUSMS).

• Exam Venue: Dhulikhel (Chaukot)
• Exam date, venue and no of seats will be notified through national newspaper (Kantipur) by mid of January. You need to download application form and fill it. Payment can be done in Nepal Investment Bank Ltd, Kathmandu. If you are applying as sponsor candidate then you have to submit sponsorship paper along with ur application (This will play a vital role for the final selection).
• Date of exam: 1st week of February. There are 100 MCQs to be completed in 2hrs so you will have enough time. The questions are short and occasionally with clinical vignettes. Basically there are 4 choices without negative marking. Seat plans are not so strict.
• Criteria: exam score (rank), interview along with sponsor paper. 1 year of work experience for clinical seats.Good news from this year 2011 is that KU has started to give priority for entrance exams score. Written exam’s results will b published in merit order in their respective subject. Then points will b added from interviews, sponsor’s paper and work experience in that particular specialty.
• Exception- Some colleges will prefer more to sponsor, advance extra payment and 3- 5 years bond later
• PG courses are in :
  • Within Nepal: Every year new PG programs have been added in different colleges. Recently KUSMS has started PG in physiology, IM, General Surgery.
  • India: For PG in Manipal India (March/ April and July/August session), u must b medical grads from Indian council registered medical school. The Entrance exam is same.
  • Austria: alternate 6 months course
• Payment: Officially it is 18 lakhs. But there are rumors that inside bargaining goes max to 50 lakhs – 80 lakhs/seat
  • There are full sponsorship and full payment seats.
  • Theme of enrollment is that every medical grads are equal in their knowledge so final selection is on the basis of payment and sponsor’s paper.
• Books: No specific books. Read the books which u have been preparing for other PG entrance exams.

Yes, KU rumors about payment and all is well known that doesn't mean we are trying to defame KU. It is a new university, which is trying to come up with its standard but that will take time, a proper system has not yet fully function. But, I'm sure it will have its dignity and reputation in days ahead.

Similarly there was a big scam last year about IOM entrance even in MBBS and PG both. Not only KU and IOM, there was rumor about BPKIHS and may be NAMS might not be untouched. However, all of these universities are trying to make their entrance fair, hopefully we will have soon.

Our only intention is - deserving candidate should get the seat, exam should be fair on merit basis. The deserving in the sense, who have score high in the entrance with his hard work, rather than nepotism and all.

Exam result of 2011 was unbiased. They are improving a lot which seems reasonable.
